Maxton R. Scotland


Maxton is from a cosmopolitan West Indian and British background and spent his formative years on the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He studied Politics, international relations, journalism and linguistics at the University of the West Indies and Westminster University respectively. He currently holds an MSc in security, from the London Metropolitan University. Maxton is currently a social entrepreneur and has a passion for youth development and gender equality. This passion championed his desire to become actively involved with Rotaract and Global MUN He has been involved with MUN since 2014 and has attended MUN conferences, the world over. He is also the Executive Chairman of the International Youth Decision-making Body.

Maxton enlisted in the UK Armed Forces where he performed a plethora of roles, most notably, a linguist for 6 years. Through this medium, he harnessed the requisite training and skill(s) needed to understand global youths, across cultural and language barriers. He strongly believes that such experience instilled within him a greater appreciation of both differences and commonalities, in addition to the challenges presented by promoting a culture of peace and mutual understanding.

Maxton is no stranger to the international stage and is renowned for his belief in youths taking their rightful place at the decision-making table. He recently served as the Assistant Director of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees committee, and youth co-chair at the Rotary UN day, both at the United Nations Headquarters. He will also serve as youth co-chair at this year’s UN DPI/NGO conference and is a current nominee for the United Nations Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth position.


Paula Sopoian

Paula Sopoian


Paula Sopoian (25 years old) Past President 2015-2016 of Rotaract Club Baia Mare Team from Romania has been part of the Rotary family since 2010. Believing in the Rotary motto – Service above Self – Paula is trying to bring a change around her by volunteering in Rotaract Clubs from Romania and other countries.

Graduating from the Babes- Bolyai University in Cluj -Napoca, Romania, from the Faculty of European Studies, she is current a final year student at the Faculty of Law at the same university. Paula is aiming for a career in diplomacy and international relations, being passionate about the field of international relations and global politics. In 2014, Paula together with 3 students from the Faculty of Law were the first team to take part in an international law moot court competition on behalf of their University, since then her appetite for international competitions and Model United Nations conferences opened.

With cheerful and sociable personality, eager for adventure, Paula likes to travel, to meet people who are open to discussions, to experience new cultures and situations that would help her to grow personally and intellectually. Rotaract combines all these elements, being an organization that offers the opportunity to visit different countries, to build relationships with beautiful people and that feeds her passion for volunteering.

Paula is currently involved in promoting the project initiated by her club in 2013, Rotaract Global Model United Nations, which unites young people from around the world at a conference for 5 days. In the debate, participants try to propose solutions to the main problems facing the world today.

Francesca El Asmar

Francesca works at OXFAM, an international NGO, as Protection Research Officer. She has been involved in Model UN conferences since 2011. She participated in high school MUN conferences in Lebanon and Philadelphia. She was also a delegate in university-level MUN in Geneva. Francesca is an intersectional feminist and a strong advocate of women’s rights. She holds an MSc degree in Gender, Policy and Inequalities from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has been passionate for world politics and international development early on, and holds a BA degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Notre Dame University – Louaize. She is currently the Treasurer of the Rotaract Club of Kesrouan and the Incoming President for 2017-2018. She is very excited to merge her Model UN and her Rotaract experience. She looks forward to chairing the UNEP committee and is eager to meet all delegates very soon!



Ghalia Khalil

Ghalia Khalil


Ghalia Khalil is a 20-year-old Political Science student at the American University of Beirut. She has been involved in environmental policy entrepreneurship graduate seminars at Freie Universität Berlin, and contributed to the Environmental Policy Research Centre (FFU) in Germany. Being a vegan environmental and animal rights activist, she has used social media as a platform to raise awareness about sustainability and animal cruelty. Most importantly, Ghalia has been involved in Model United Nations since 2011, participating in International conferences such as Harvard World MUN and MUN Turkey, and in national conferences as well such as LebMUN, MAL and GCLAU MUN, where she has earned awards. She is currently the Vice President of the Rotaract Club of Tyre. She is impatient so as to be part of the Dais of the UNEP this year and to bring about palpable change to the way environmental protection is perceived and handled.



Abraham Tesfaw Wate

Abraham Tesfaw Wate


Abraham Tesfaw Wate lives in Ethiopia, working as International NGO’s and Environment Expert at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abraham proved himself to bring a sustained impact by establishing “The Green Club” in 2010, a nonprofit organization that teaches society about Environmental Protection and Resource Management. This initiative promotes youth engagement in Innovation and Sustainable Development; with the objective to foster environmental stewardship and a positive vision to communities. Since its founding, the startup has inspired more than 500 youths and Adults in Ethiopia and Internationally. Added to these group initiatives, Abraham contributed his academic and professional knowledge, to add success to organizations he worked for. He holds an MSc degree in Renewable Energy Development from Heriot-Watt University and BSc degree in Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University.

Scarlet Rahy


Scarlet Rahy holds a Master of Science in Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain from the University of Salford, Manchester, in addition to a BE in Industrial Engineering. She has attended several international conferences on leadership and youth engagement such as the "World Youth Alliance - New York" and "Global MUN - South Korea." She has also served as the Under Secretary General for Training and Educational Development in GC LAU MUN, Lebanon.



Alexander Sohl

Alexander Sohl


Alexander Sohl is a German-born entrepreneur and committed Rotaractor with both his professional and Rotaract life based in Berlin, Germany.

The experiences he gathered while traveling and living around the world have infused him with a passion for international relations and politics. Gladly he stumbled upon Model United Nations in Shanghai 2008. Ever since, MUN is an activity that has given him much more than simply the opportunities to learn about international affairs, to travel across four continents, or to get really good at tying his tie on the go as he rushes to committee. More importantly, MUN has given him the chance to meet all of you; to connect with young people from over a hundred countries, and to foster meaningful friendships that last far beyond the bang of the final gavel dies out.



Jose Zaarour

My name is Jose Zaarour, and I am pleased to be part of this year's Security Council dais! I am currently studying Political Science and International Affairs with a minor in Legal Studies at the Lebanese American University.

I have been involved with Rotary for as long as I can remember, and I had the opportunity to compete in GC LAU MUN, Paris International MUN, USEK Model European Union, as well as Harvard World MUN. I have also trained high school delegates, as well as chaired and been part of many daises in a wide range of committees. Needless to say, MUN has been part of my life for a great while! I am also a swimmer and a painter, and I enjoy ignoring my responsibilities in order to catch up on the latest Suits episode. I am exhilarated to see the ideas and creative resolutions you will all bring to the debate during the committee sessions!

Hello Lebanon. This is Soumya Basu. I am from India and I am thrilled to travel to Lebanon for the very first time. I wish to have a lovely conference with you all. By education I am an engineering graduate in telecommunications, by profession I am a patent prosecutor. I have presented two papers on international law and as for Model UNs go, I have an experience of over 50 Model UNs all over the world. In committee, I appreciate delegates with spatial thinking and good research. Wish everyone the best of luck for the conference.

My name is Savina Alexieva and I am from Sofia, Bulgaria. I am honoured to have been part of the Rotary family for more than 10 years, past president of Interact Club Sofia- Center. From my early childhood I was very interested in different NGOs and European youth programs such as Youth in action. This broadened my perspectives from early age and I am still eager for new opportunities.

In 2010 I became SOFIMUN alumni and in 2010-2011 I was a youth representative in the UN Youth Delegate Program and since then I have been fascineted by MUNs and NGOs,focussing on youth issues. Following my interests I have participated in numerous simulation of the United and showed excellent diplomatic performance and broad knowledge in world political issues.

Currently, I am finishing my master law degree in New Bulgarian University, as well as my bachelor in Bussiness Adimistration.I am fluent in English and German.

Elsa Saade (Lebanon) is a social and political activist working in the fields of humanitarian assistance, advocacy, digital rights and capacity building. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Political Science from the Lebanese American University with a minor in Legal studies. Elsa has been active in Lebanese civil society movements, engaging in campaigns specifically related to women's rights, war reconciliation, observing elections, youth leadership, and peace building. She is the current Human Rights Officer at Gulf Center for Human Rights and is a member of several national, regional as well as international coalitions and communities such as the Women's Network, the MENA coalition for WHRDs, the ICANN GNSO community, and the Internet Society ambassadors, amongst others"



Salma Daoudi

Salma Daoudi


Salma Daoudi is 21 years old. She is a Moroccan junior student majoring in international studies at Al Akhwayn University, and involved in a number of student organizations. She has also spent a semester studying abroad at the United States, which further fueled my love of travels. Her hobbies include reading, watching movies, traveling, and obviously participating in MUN conferences.
